On May 17, Mr. Julian Lazarus’s Advanced Dance class was leaping, turning, rolling and plieing in prep for its final dance showcase, which will be held Friday, May 20th. This year’s theme is ” A Hero’s Journey.”

During the first half of the show, the class will be performing twelve dances that represent the twelve steps that every fictional hero goes though– Ordinary World, Call to Adventure, Refusal of the Call, Meeting the Mentor, Crossing the Threshold, Tests and Enemies, Approaching the Cave, Ordeal, Reward, The Road Back, Resurrection, and Return with Prize. Each student created a hero story, and the class voted on their favorite. The winner was senior Cassie Wheeles.

The story follows a schizophrenic character as he falls in love and obsesses over a love interest. In each dance, the schizophrenic character is represented by a red costume, and the love interest is represented by a pastel costume. The story will be explained in the time between each dance.

The second half of the show will be filled with dances unrelated to the story. They include duos, Irish dancing, and a class dance to “Cell Block Tango” from the musical Chicago.

Senior dancer Olivia DuBro said, “This year all of the dances tell their own story, which create one large plot line. I’m really excited to show off  what we’ve put our minds, hearts, and sweat into.”
