On Saturday, September 19th, the varsity volleyball team geared up to bring home a win in the 2015 Invitational Tournament. They wanted to come back stronger after losing the final game of last year’s tournament. With exceptional teamwork, they took home first place after beating Chambersburg 25-19 and 25-22 in the final game.

The tournament began at 8 a.m. and Linganore competed in a five-team pool. Their record was 7-1.

In the  semi-final game, it was important for Linganore to defeat Oakdale, the Class 2A championship winners of 2014. According to the Frederick News Post, sophomore setter Madison France said, “Last year, they were our biggest rivals.” The Lancers ended up beating the Bears in two straight sets 25-20 and 25-16.

One of many things that worked in the Lancers favor was serving. Brooke Hayden often went on serving runs, acing Chambersburg by sending balls to the lines and in deep corners of the court.

Another skill that was important in their success was agressive passing. There wasn’t a time where one of the girls wasn’t willing to hit the floor to pick up a ball. Libero Hannah Laughter was no exception; she picked up nine digs in the semi-final and final.
