Thanks to the internet and the endless number of makeup artists on YouTube, everyone’s becoming a beauty expert. Below are the Top Ten Makeup Trends of 2015:

10. Winged Eyeliner

Dating back to Cleopatra and her winged-out kohl liner, this is one of those iconic eyeliner looks that will never go out of style.

Winged eyeliner was especially popular in the 60’s thanks to Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn and Bridgett Bardot.

A quick way to get the perfect winged liner explained by Buzzfeed.

“I love winged liner, but I feel like I reserve it for more ‘fancy’ occasions,” said Linganore graduate and sophomore at Towson University Claire Soper.

9. Smokey Eye

Everyone has their own idea of what a smokey eye is, ranging from the classic smudged go-to party look or the more subtle, neutral tone. Senior, Jeweliana Hendrickson, creates her smokey eye as her daily look.

“I do a smokey eye almost every day because I love how it looks. I use pretty dark eye-shadow along with a golden eye-shadow. It takes me around five to ten minutes a day to do it, unless I mess up,” says Hendrickson.

8. ‘Vampy’ Lips

Vampy lips aren’t just for the runway. Celebs such as Kim Kardashian, and Jennifer Lawrence have been wearing the whole range of the sultry shades from the classic red, to dark berry and Bordeaux.

“I like doing ‘Vampy Lips’ because it makes my blue eyes pop. I generally use NYC’s color 309, sheer red,” said Soper.

7. ‘No Makeup’ Makeup

‘No Makeup’ Makeup is all about a fresh faced glow and letting your natural beauty shine through. This trend is nothing new, but made its comeback in 2015 due to runway models from Marc Jacobs hitting the runway wearing barely any makeup.

“‘No Makeup’ Makeup is my favorite trend. I don’t always have time in the mornings to do my makeup so I tend to do the minimal, especially for school,” said Linganore graduate, and sophomore at Towson University, Sami Phelps.

6. ‘Falsie Effect’ Lashes

Ever wished your eyelashes looked like you were wearing falsies?  If we could only have a few makeup products, mascara would be one of them, considering it opens up our eyes and pulls a look together.

Some go through the hassle of applying false lashes, which can be a pain, but there’s an easy way to achieve the false lash look, the falsie effect. Senior, Corinne Bremer, the falsie effect queen, explains what she does to achieve this look.

“Honestly, it only takes me five minutes to do my lashes. I use two different mascaras from Maybelline, Colossal Chaotic to lightly coat the lashes and Lash Sensational (Black Pearl) to make them bolder, because I only trust their formula. I coat my lashes a few times, making sure that they’re all separated. I can’t stand clumpy or spidery lashes,” says Bremer.

5. Flawless Skin

The prescription for your beauty look this winter: flawless skin. With flawless skin foundation isn’t needed.

Don’t know how to keep your skin hydrated and flawless?

“To keep my skin hydrated, I drink a lot of water and no soda. I also moisturize my face every day in the morning when I wake up and when I go to bed,” said Phelps.

4. Matte Lips

Forget all the shine, dull and flat is the new trend for your lips. Matte lipstick is highly pigmented and best worn as the boldest part of your makeup look.

Want the best matte lip? Try Too Faced Melted Lipstick.

“I like using a matte lip for special events and cheer competitions because when it comes time to take pictures I don’t want any glares,” said Class of ’17, Peyton Kidwell.

3. Highlighting

Highlighting your face attracts light to areas like the brow-bone, tip of nose, cupid bow, the top of cheekbones, and creates the illusions of brightness.

Personally, I use highlighting everyday along with contouring. Highlighting really emphasizes certain facial features. Some days I mix it up and use Urban Decay’s Naked Illuminated, or I’ll use their other highlighter in the Naked Flushed palette. I generally apply the product using my fingers.

2. Contouring

A makeup technique previously reserved for runway models and photo shoots, is becoming a part of many girls/guys daily routines.

“Contouring is giving shape to an area of the face and enhancing the facial structure through makeup. It’s not supposed to be noticeable just a subtle definition,” says Beau Nelson, makeup artist.

“I love contouring because it gives your face more structure and can completely tie everything together. I use Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit and it’s perfection. When I was first learning, it took forever to get it right but now it takes five seconds and can be part of my everyday makeup,” said makeup guru, Emma Wynkoop.

1. ‘Brows on Fleek’

When you hear about someone having brows on fleek you think Cara Delevingne, who is recognized as being responsible for the increase in brow popularity, but in reality it needs to be thanked to the social media community that employed the hashtag #EyebrowsOnFleek.

Fleek, a word which is well-known to the makeup community, is when eyebrows are perfectly groomed, filled and shaped.

“I use NYX’s brow pomade and a B22 brush while doing my brows. It takes me anywhere from 2 minutes to a half hour to do them. I learned how to do my brows just from watching tutorials on Instagram and practicing a lot,” said Gabi Trivelli, the ‘Brows On Fleek’ master.
