The National English Honor Society is helping first graders in Mrs. Beverly Lloyd’s  class at Centerville Elementary School improve their writing by being “Pen Pals.”

This  educational activity is organized by senior Rebecca Downs. Downs interns at Centerville, with hopes to pursue a degree in education after high school. She is also a member of NEHS and thought it would be a great activity for both the members of the society and the children.

The 25  first graders sent the initial letters, describing “All about me.”  The NEHS students responded.

One child wrote, “My faverit spot is tenis what is your?”

Her pen pal responded describing favorite activities and drawing pictures. “I used to play tennis when I was your age!” The NEHS student also described her passion for art and included a photo of something she produced at LHS.

The pairs will exchange four letters total.  In April, NEHS members hope to take a field trip to Centerville to meet their Pen Pals.
