On Saturday, March 21, the National Honor Society hosted their annual talent show to raise money for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Maryland. Club members sold tickets, raffle entries, and passed out programs before the show, while Michael Fink and Riley Bruning entertained the crowd with their propeller caps and puns about each upcoming act.

Between performances, Fink and Bruning also shared facts with the audience about how the proceeds will be spent, such as radiation treatments and hospital parking passes for affected patients.

Many students came out to show off their best skills which included baton twirling, singing, piano playing, and even beat-boxing. The winners of the evening were as follows:

  • Best Instrumental Performance: Matt Earp and Ross Hayek
  • Best Musical Performance: Abby Weinel
  • Best Dance Performance: Alyssa Lewis
  • Best Vocal Performance: Olivia DuBro
  • Best Overall Talent: Shawn Verma and Patrick Dougherty

If you see any of these talented Lancers, be sure to congratulate them!

Alyssa Lewis was the sophomore baton twirler who won in the dance category. “I thought the dancers were going to win. But getting on stage the first time twirling at Linganore, I didn’t know what to think. I was nervous but excited at the same time. It was a lot of fun to go up there and twirl and dance for everyone to see.”

At the end of the night, The National Honor Society had raised over $1000 for the cause, while providing exciting entertainment for all! A special thanks goes out to local businesses such as The Velvet Lounge and the Mt. Airy Inn for providing raffle prizes.
