Each year, Horticulture holds a poinsettia plant sale in December. Each 10-12 inch plant sells for $8 starting after the target date of November 30th.

When the poinsettia plants arrived on September 9th, they were about 8 inches tall.

“There are 675 plants in the greenhouses. It’s all that we can fit. We sell them all every year,” said Horticulture teacher Mr. Tom Hawthorne.

The plants are sold to many organizations and are distributed throughout the community with the help of the Mount Airy Lions Club and churches (which pre-order the plants to receive near Christmas). They are typically sold out by mid-December.

Horticulture classes tend to the plants; watering, fertilizing, and ventilating them to ensure the best condition and quality of the plants. Each student gets to take one plant home before the sale begins.

If you are interested in ordering flowers, complete the form available at Linganore High School. The poinsettias are just a part of the Winter Holiday Fundraiser, which includes fruit baskets, boxes of citrus fruits, sandwiches and subs, cheesecakes, and more.
