Every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday the Little Lancers come into the Child Development class taught by Mrs. Kate Lane, and her students teach and take care of the future Lancers.

This is the third week the Little Lancers have been coming to school this fall.

Child Development is a class that teaches students about the role of play in children’s learning, strategies for supporting physical, intellectual, social and emotional development, and positive guidance practices and techniques.

As it is stated in the FCPS course summary, “through classroom activities, observations of children and actual experiences with preschool children in the child development laboratory, students study the stages of growth and development.”

This class is a good pathway to future jobs, such as ones working with young children.

On Thursday, October 8,  the students taught the Little Lancers about art and read stories to them. Before class begins all the kids play with toys, and the students play with them before everyone gets to the school.

Students really enjoy being able to teach the children and learn from them.

“They’re so cute and they tell you about their lives. It’s just a lot of fun,” said Destiny Johnson.
