December is canine heaven for staff member dogs.  For three days, Mrs. Pat Beachy’s pre vet small animal class practices skills by  grooming staff members’ dogs. The pets, dogs both large and small, are shampooed and showered and, if requested, clipped and styled. In order to appease the animals in between baths, the dogs are treated to multiple biscuits.  Students taking part in the grooming have as much fun as the animals themselves,

“The dogs are really cute, and I love to make them happy. This also helps to give us great patience,” said senior Jen Berardi.

The dogs walking around the school also add a bit of excitement. “I think the dogs being here lowers blood pressure and raises morale–I think everyone likes dogs and that there should be a lot more of this. The kids love it and I get to live vicariously through them because I don’t own a dog of my own,” said Mr. Aaron Burch, social studies teacher, cat owner, and animal lover.

The pre vet class is currently accepting donations for the Frederick County Animal Shelter. Donations of money, towels, leashes, pet food, and much more are greatly appreciated. If you wish to help, bring your donation to Mrs. Beachy’s room, B124.
