This is the fifth story in Lancer Media’s Summer Series: Most Likely to… These feature stories highlight students who are becoming role models of Lancer Spirit.

“I love cheering for my school. The energy is just great. I love getting everyone pumped,” said Jade Riley, a rising LHS sophomore.

Last year, Riley found her niche by joining the cheerleading team and participating in Dance I class. In her spare time, she likes to dance and tumble, as well as spend time with her friends.

While she may have been doing round offs in cheer and dance, Riley is well-rounded, participating in Animals 101 club and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA).

What made her most proud this year was working hard, trying her very best at everything she did, and participating in cheer to support her school.

“Cheer helped me gain knowledge on acceptance and working with other people. You shouldn’t judge a book by its cover.”  That’ especially good advice for the class of 2018, just a month away from starting their high school careers.

Her favorite subject in school is dance, but she says that she excels in English.   It isn’t just teachers and subject matter that taught Riley important lessons.

“What I’ve learned that I will use ten years from now is what true friendship is. Everyone isn’t who they say they are.”

To Riley, the most important things to her are her friend and her close bond with them. The thing that she treasures most in friendship is trust. Friends were most important in Riley’s transition from middle school to high school, helping her quickly adapt to the new environment.

“I fit in best with my middle school friends. I still hang out with them a lot, and some of the people from cheer,” Riley said.

“Some of my hobbies are riding my bike, dancing, tumbling, and watching Netflix.” Riley’s favorite show is Once Upon a Time, but plans to watch Supernatural over the summer.

After high school, Riley wants to have a family of her own, while keeping her own family close.

“I might become a dentist,” said Riley. Even though it’s early in high school, she is thinking ahead.  Her top choice for college is Salisbury.

“The people who inspire me most are my parents and family. They have a lot of influence on my life and inspire me to do my best,” said Riley. She has two older sisters, one who just graduated and one who is in her senior year of college at Salisbury.

“My parents are also the ones who motivate me the most, but Ms. Doughty does, too. She always pushes me to do my very best.”

“Jade is very enthusiastic and well rounded, very academically motivated. I say she personifies the friendliness of Linganore,” said Marga Doughty, former Spanish teacher.

The people Riley says knows her the best is her family and friends.

“I can tell her everything, and I can really trust her. She’s my best friend,” said Melanie Raible.

Riley said that she would most like visit Ocean City, hang out with her friends and family, and spend some time working to stay in shape over the summer.

Her message to future Lancers is to “Think before you act– some mistakes aren’t forgiven.”
