“I triple dog dare ya!” -Everyone remembers this hilarious scene from the classic holiday movie, A Christmas Story

You cuddle up on the couch with a mug of hot chocolate and a big blanket. The tree is up; the decorations have been hung; and a warm fire is crackling. However, there is something missing from that cozy holiday feeling. You turn on the television and see many Christmas movies and specials playing on different channels, but which one do you choose?

Everybody has their favorites that they can’t miss on television each year; they add to the Christmas cheer during this time of the year. The Lance has chosen our top ten can’t-miss Christmas specials and movies to share with you.

Number 10

It’s A Wonderful Life is a magnificent tale of a man who is shown how loved he is by the people in his life. When George Bailey becomes suicidal, an angel named Clarence takes him to an alternative world where he had never existed in order to prove how valued his existence is. This movie is a spectacular choice due to its terrific story line and admiral message, and although it’s in black and white, it’s definitely one that everyone should see.

Number 9

Spot number nine is the lovable story of a divorced father who has no choice but to take over as the new Santa Clause after the original goes “out of commission.” The Santa Clause is a very enjoyable movie for the whole family. Be sure to catch Tim Allen starring in this 1994 classic and the two sequels that follow it.

Number 8

At number eight is everybody’s favorite green guy; How The Grinch Stole Christmas. Skip the modern mess; it’s the animated classic that we all know and love. And I think we can all admit that we still feel bad for the poor little dog when he gets run over by the sled. He may be “a mean one”, but you can’t miss out on the Grinch discovering the joy and cheer of the holiday season.

Number 7

Spot number seven is reserved for the most famous reindeer of all. Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer is always one of the first specials that come to mind when we think of the Christmas season. Everybody can recall this adorable reindeer and his struggle to become accepted.

Number 6

What if in the hustle and bustle of preparing to leave for your family’s annual Christmas vacation, you get forgotten only to be left home alone? Coming in at spot number six is Kevin McCallister and his story of being home by himself for the holidays while avoiding two burglars that are desperate to get past his clever traps. Home Alone is without a doubt a must-see for us at this time of year. “Merry Christmas, you filthy animal.”

Number five

Halfway to spot number one is The Polar Express; a story about a boy that is caught by surprise when a magical train arrives at his house on Christmas Eve to take him to the North Pole. The Polar Express is an adventurous movie focused around believing and lifting your spirits high for the holidays.

Number four

At spot number four is a wildly popular Christmas movie about a lovable “elf” named Buddy that travels from the North Pole to New York City to meet his real father. Do you think you love Santa Clause as much as Buddy does? “SANTA? OH MY GOD! SANTA IS COMING? I KNOW HIM!” Elf is a humorous movie that you can’t watch just once.
“My favorite part [of Elf] is when Buddy is dancing in the mail room on the tables,” says junior Avery Eddins. “It’s also really funny when he drinks the coffee because he gets really hyper and crazy.”

Number three

A Charlie Brown Christmas, one of the most famous Christmas specials of all time, claims spot number three on our list. Who doesn’t love the Peanuts gang? We could never forget the scene where everyone is dancing on the stage. Don’t try to deny that you’ve attempted those dance moves at least once in your life. Learn about the true meaning of Christmas in this excellent classic.
Junior Abby Hilton says, “You can’t get much better than Charlie Brown. The best part is definitely when Snoopy makes that noise after kissing Lucy. It’s hilarious.”

Number two

At spot number two is one of the funniest Christmas movies you may ever see; National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. If you think your family gets a little hectic during the holidays, at least you can say you’re not the Griswolds. Watch as Clark Griswold faces more than a few problems while trying his hardest to achieve a perfect family Christmas.

Number one

Owning the spotlight is A Christmas Story; the number one Christmas movie that we absolutely have to watch every year. This hilarious story follows Ralphie, a nine-year-old boy determined to get a Red Rider BB gun for Christmas. It’s a movie that you’ll be quoting all year long.
These fantastic Christmas specials and movies are sure to complete your holiday season and make it merry. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do every year.
