The Lady Lancers held a Cinderella’s Closet donation drive through November and December.

Move over, Men’s club. There are ladies in the house! Lady Lancers is a club that was re-started this past year. They are “creating a place where all girls feel welcome and shows positivity in the community,” according to Barbara Ferguson, advisor.

The new group has a substantial size, with about 20 members. Junior Rebecca Downs wanted to join the club because she “wanted to make a difference in the community, and I thought it would help me in college to show my leadership skills.”

Downs and other Lady Lancers are making a mark on their community, starting with helping with the Cinderella’s Closet.

Cinderella’s Closet provides formal wear as well as casual wear to girls who could not otherwise afford to attend their homecoming/ prom. Through donations of new and gently used formal dresses and accessories dresses get turned into dreams for juniors and seniors in need.

On December 7, the Lady Lancers helped at the Lancer Candy Lane. They sold the donations they received for Cinerella’s Closet. About 30 articles of clothing were sold, out of about 60 donation received.

Ferguson hopes this year for the club is to help at a soup kitchen, and make bracelets for young girls at a local hospital.

“I thought it would have a positive impact on girls; I think it’s important to not let go of what it means to be a lady in in today’s society,” she says.

Downs described the club as “classy not and not trashy, and we are the change that we want to see in the community.”

Meetings are every club day during second period, and they are attempting to also make after school meetings once a month as well.

In the early 2000’s the Lady Lancers sold daffodils for the American Cancer Society.

An earlier version of the club was started in the early 2000’s by Mrs. Natalie Rebetsky “I originally got the idea from a high school in Pennsylvania. They had a girls club there, and I thought Lady Lancers would be really catchy.”

Ferguson says that she would love to have guest speakers also speak to the club members.

Any girl at Linganore can join this club. All girls are welcome. If you are interested in joining this club, then see Mrs. Ferguson to sign up.

Downs also said that her favorite thing about the club is “everyone is welcoming and we act like a caring family.”
